Obesity is defined as excess body fat in a person. There are several factors that contribute to being obese. Some of the main factors include a diet rich in sugar and junk food, sedentary lifestyle, genetic factors, hormonal factors in some cases, etc. Dieting isn’t the solution to tackle obesity. Dieting only creates temporary eating patterns that provide the most temporary results. Most people who diet tend to regain their weight once they return to their old eating habits. Successful weight loss is achieved only when the old unhealthy habits are replaced with new healthy habits. Here are 5 tips to maintain a healthy body weight.
6 tips to maintain healthy body weight
Eat your breakfast on time
Breakfast, as we all know, is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast gives you the energy to do more by the day by kick-starting your metabolism. People who skip breakfast often feel hungry later in the day and eat more. This allows more calories to get accumulated and an eventual tendency to uncontrolled eating which can result in obesity.
Switch to Healthier Snacking
Stop snacking anything that is fried and sugary. Also, stop snacking on anything that is carb-based. Replace your normal snacks with fruits and vegetable salads. Eating a generous amount of fruits and vegetables can provide you with the required amount of vitamins and mineral you need. They also contain fibre, which prevents overeating. Nuts can also be a healthy option.
Do any form of exercises
Regular exercise or regular physical activities can burn down excess calories and can help in building muscles both of which help you look and feel good. Regular exercise need not be done in the gym alone, it can also be regular walking, jogging, walking your pets, cycling, etc. As the intensity of the exercise increases, more calories are burned, more muscles start to build and you tend to slowly lose excess fat.
Reduce your time in front of your TV or any screens
Most people who spend a lot of time in front of screens are likely to be overweight. Especially people who work at jobs that demand them to sit in front of their screens for a long period of time. Although people who have such demanding jobs cannot alter their jobs, they surely can reduce their screen time in front of their personal devices like smartphones, tablets, TVs, etc.
Get enough sleep
Sleep deprivation is a major contributing factor for weight gain in adults. This is due to the fact that inadequate sleep can lead to increased levels of ghrelin or hunger hormone which increases your appetite. Inadequate sleep also decreases leptin which is a hormone responsible for appetite control. Sleeping for at least 7 hours is mandatory for optimal weight control and overall health. Getting enough sleep also makes you charged for the rest of the day.
Keep yourself adequately hydrated
Water smoothens and syncronizes body metabolism. It also reduces hunger pangs. The waste toxins that are produced as a result of weight loss are easily washed out of our body. So take water at regular intervals.
